Ashoka said Nagendra’s resignation should not mark the end of the matter, insisting that a probe must establish who authorised the fund transfers.

BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R Ashoka, on Friday reacted to the resignation of Minister B Nagendra, calling it “a political blow to the arrogance of the Congress government” in the state.
Ashoka linked the move by the Minister to the BJP’s “sustained pressure and relentless fight waged” by it over the alleged Valmiki Corporation scam.
Nagendra stepped down from the Karnataka Cabinet amid allegations of financial irregularities in the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation. His resignation came ahead of the BJP’s proposed 10-day padayatra from Raichur to Ballari over the alleged scam.

BJP Targets Congress Over Valmiki Scam
Reacting to the development, Ashoka accused the Congress government of initially attempting to protect Nagendra and said the resignation followed mounting public pressure.
“Congress Government Forced to Bow Before Public Anger! The Karnataka Congress government has finally been forced to accept the resignation of Minister B. Nagendra after trying every possible trick to shield him from accountability in the Valmiki Development Corporation scam,” Ashoka said.
He alleged that Rs 187 crore meant for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes was siphoned off and accused the ruling party of avoiding questions raised by the BJP and JD(S).
Ashoka said Nagendra’s resignation should not mark the end of the matter, insisting that a detailed investigation must establish who authorised the fund transfers and who benefited from the alleged diversion.
“Nagendra’s resignation is NOT the end of the matter. It is the beginning of the investigation,” he wrote on X.
“This is not merely the resignation of one Minister. It is a political blow to the arrogance of the Congress government. It is a victory for the demand for justice for the Scheduled Tribes. And it is a warning that corruption cannot be protected by political power,” he added.
“The Congress government’s attempt to bury the issue has failed. Now the truth must come out. The full account of the money must come out. And justice must prevail. The BJP’s fight will continue until the people get answers, the entire truth behind the scam is uncovered and every person responsible is brought before the law. This is not the end of the fight. This is the beginning of the fight for truth,” he further wrote.
What Is Karnataka Valmiki Scam?
The controversy emerged in May 2024 after P Chandrasekharan, an accounts superintendent with the corporation, died by suicide and left a note alleging financial irregularities. Investigations subsequently found that Rs 89.63 crore was transferred from a corporation account to a Union Bank of India account and then moved to multiple accounts. Nagendra had resigned as tribal welfare minister in June 2024 when the allegations first surfaced.
