Hasina said that continuous action is being taken against Awami League leaders and workers. According to him, cases have been registered against almost all the big leaders and workers and many people are forced to live in hiding. However, he did not give the exact date of return. In an interview given to Reuters, he said, Hasina had left Bangladesh and come to India in 2024 after the anti-government movement. After this he was sentenced to death in a case related to action on student movement. She has been denying these allegations. Hasina said – There is no discussion with the government on her return. Sheikh Hasina said that she has not had any discussion with the government on her return to Bangladesh. He says that issues like democracy, elections, political rights of Awami League and justice cannot be discussed behind the scenes. Hasina claimed that the Bangladesh government is continuously writing letters to India to send them back. She said, “There will be no need to bring me back, I will return myself.” However, there has been no response from the Bangladesh government on Hasina’s claim. At the same time, India also did not comment at this time. Earlier in April, India had said it was considering Bangladesh’s extradition request and working towards strengthening ties with the new government. Hasina said – If she has committed a mistake, then the public should decide. Sheikh Hasina said that she is not afraid of going to jail, because she has been arrested many times before. He said that any government that remains in power for a long time can make mistakes, but it should be decided by the public and not the court. “If our government has committed mistakes, the public will decide,” he said. According to Reuters, a UN report has said that about 1,400 people have died in the crackdown on the 2024 student movement. In the same case, Sheikh Hasina was sentenced to death in absentia. Hasina said she was confident that the truth would come out once the court hearing begins. Government said- Efforts are on to bring back Sheikh Hasina. According to the Bangladesh government, efforts are on to bring back Hasina. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam had said on Tuesday that the government is making continuous efforts at the diplomatic level to produce Hasina before the court and there is no flaw in the process. He said that the process of bringing back Hasina had started during the interim government and the present government is also taking it forward. According to him, extradition happens only under international rules and legal process, so it is natural that it takes time. When he was asked whether India was cooperating in this matter, he did not answer directly.
