Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay will be the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Vijay will take oath as the 9th Chief Minister of the state at 10 am today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will attend the swearing-in. According to media reports, along with Vijay, 8 more ministers can also take oath. Their names have not been revealed yet. Earlier, Vijay reached Raj Bhavan on Saturday and handed over letters of support from 121 MLAs of TVK, Congress, CPI, CPM, VCK and IUML to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. After this the Governor invited him to form the government. Vijay’s two-year-old party TVK made a big record by winning 108 out of 234 seats in its very first assembly elections. After the support of allies, Vijay has the support of 121 MLAs, while the majority figure is 118. Tamil Nadu will have a Chief Minister from a non-Dravidian party after 1967, i.e. after about 60 years. Earlier, M Bhaktavatsalam was the Chief Minister in the Congress government from 1963-1967.
