Three Indians died and five went missing after a boat capsized near Beira Port in the south-east African country of Mozambique on Friday.

According to the Indian High Commission, the accident occurred while a tanker was transporting crew members from shore to the ship. A total of 14 Indian citizens were aboard the boat.

The High Commission said in its statement – A boat capsized during crew transfer near Beira Port, in which 14 Indian citizens were aboard. Some Indians have been rescued, but some died and some are still missing.

The High Commission said- A consular officer of the mission is in Beira and met the Indian citizen, who survived the accident and is undergoing treatment in the hospital. Rescue operations are underway to search for the five missing Indians.

The Indian High Commission assured that it is monitoring the situation and cooperating with local authorities in rescue operations.
