A massive fire suddenly broke out in the slums in Vikas Nagar police station area of Lucknow. A massive fire broke out in Vikas Nagar area around 5:30 pm on Wednesday evening. The fire was so horrific that more than 10 gas cylinders exploded one after the other and more than 50 slums were burnt to ashes. The flames were visible up to a distance of about 5 kilometers, due to which panic spread in the entire area. As a precaution, about 10 nearby houses were evacuated.
After the incident, several fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and efforts to control the fire continued till late night. The electricity supply to the area has been cut so that no major accident occurs. According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread so fast that people did not even get a chance to recover. The affected families say that all their belongings have been burnt to ashes and many people have come under the open sky. Some local people have called the fire incident suspicious and demanded an investigation.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed concern over the incident and spoke to the District Magistrate and directed to speed up the relief work. He said that all possible help should be provided to the affected people and proper treatment of the injured should be ensured.
Taking cognizance of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and speed up the relief work. Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak also reached the spot and reviewed the rescue operations. Ordering a high-level inquiry, he said that the government stands with the families of the victims and all possible treatment will be provided to the injured.
There is news of many cattle getting burnt in this fire incident. According to Animal Welfare Officer Abhinav Verma, injured and helpless animals are being sent to the Municipal Corporation’s cowshed. So far, two cows are being treated, while six have been rescued safely.
According to DG Fire Sujit Pandey, as soon as the information was received, vehicles were sent to the spot from nearby fire stations including BKT and Indira Nagar. More than 20 fire engines worked to extinguish the fire and the fire was stopped from spreading nearby. At present, according to the administration, there has been no official confirmation of any loss of life, while relief and rescue operations are continuing.
