17 September 2023 Mandeep flew from Amritsar to Armenia This is the same date on which Mandeep stepped out of the threshold of his house in Goraya. Flew to Armenia from Amritsar airport with dreams of lifting the family out of poverty. Two people of his acquaintance and a relative were also with him. After reaching Armenia, Mandeep worked as a laborer here. Kept talking to family members regularly. From here all three saw the advertisement for work in the Army in Russia. An agent lured them into getting good money.
9 December 2023 Mandeep reached Russia from Armenia This is the date from where Mandeep Kumar’s bad days started. Mandeep was disabled. Despite this, the agent promised to get a job in the army. He was told that he would not be sent to the war front. They have to prepare food for the army and load weapons into trucks. Everyone will be given huge money for their work. Mandeep got interested in the agent’s words. When he came to work, he did not see anything wrong in the work. The relative and the remaining three friends did not like the work and returned to India.
Gave training by telling about cooking and loading weapons Mandeep’s brother told that the youth from Delhi who worked with him told that Mandeep was under his senior commander. Here all the people were recruited by saying that you have to stay behind the front line and provide food and weapons for the army. When they started being given war training, everyone protested. On this the agent said that this training is for your safety purpose. That he was trapped was revealed when he was put in a car and left to fight on the border of Ukraine.
Donkar beat me when he found out about the deception Mandeep Kumar, who reached Russia, joined the Russian Army on 18 January 2024. According to brother Jagdeep, when his brother came to know about the fraud, he wanted to leave the job. But Ankit Donkar (travel agent) beat him up. Mandeep made a video of the entire story and sent it and told that Ankit Donkar has recruited 12 more people with him.
Ankit Donkar was arrested by Amritsar Police in January 2025. Mandeep’s brother Jagdeep had lodged an FIR in Goraya police station on 2023 against Ankit Donkar and his associates. Due to the case in Rajasthan also, Rajasthan Police had taken away Ankit Donkar.

- Mandeep’s last talk on 3 March 2024: Mandeep spoke to brother Jagdeep for the last time on March 3, 2024. He told that the Russian army has sent him to the Red Line. It is unlikely that he would come back alive. After this he could never be contacted. Brother Jagdeep Kumar told that the last time the phone conversation took place on March 3, 2024. After this he was never able to talk to Mandeep again. When there was no contact with my brother after a long time, I became suspicious. After this the father went to Russia to find him. But could not find him after staying there for a month.
- Contact with Ministry of External Affairs to bring back brother: Jagdeep told that talks were held with the Ministry of External Affairs to remove his brother from the war zone. Spoke to Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balveer Singh Seechewal, Congress MP from Jalandhar Charanjit Singh Channi, Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh and many other leaders. After getting some help from all of them, he went to Russia in 2025 to find his brother. Where he stayed for a month and collected information about his brother. There was a problem of language here. Hired a translator but ran out of money and came back.
- Didn’t give up trying and went to St. Petersburg: Mandeep told that after going to Russia for the first time, he got to know something about that place. For the second time he went to St. Petersburg instead of Moscow. On October 28, he got information that his brother had died in the war. His body was found by the Russian Army in November 2024.
- Reached the big commander by meeting small commanders: Jagdeep told that Dev, a resident of Delhi, helped him in this task of finding his brother. Dev saw his video and contacted him. He told that he had seen his brother. He knew which front he was on. With the help of Dev, he reached first the younger and then the senior commander. Jagdeep told that I told the commander that my brother was handicapped. He was recruited fraudulently. Give us Deadbody. According to Jagdeep – The commander does not know how he felt pity. She said that she gave the address of a lady commander and told that her brother’s body was with her. For this he also sent his lawyer along.
- Could not be recognized after seeing, dead body found through DNA match: Jagdeep told that he reached the Lady Commander. Here the lawyer of the earlier commander Vladimir helped. He showed the bodies of the Indians for identification, but the bodies were so mutilated that it was difficult to see. It was not possible to identify whether they were Indian or Russian. Everyone had Russian army uniform on their body. On this he asked for DNA. His DNA sample was taken. The report came in 15 days. Deadbody was given after the match.
- Contacted the Indian Embassy and brought the deadbody: Jagdeep told that after the DNA match with his brother’s dead body, he informed the Indian Embassy. After this this information was sent to the Ministry of External Affairs. From here again arrangements were made to bring the deadbody to India. Late on Saturday night, he reached Delhi Airport with the dead body and from here reached Goraya via ambulance.

Told my mother for the first time – Mandeep is no more Jagdeep told that my father and I had come to know that brother Mandeep had died, but did not tell our mother about it. He was told that he was searching for him and would bring him back safely. At night, when the ambulance arrived with Mandeep’s dead body in the coffin, they told the mother that Mandeep had died.
Jagdeep said – I will go to court against the Russian government Jagdeep Kumar said that he will also file a case in the Russian court regarding how his brother was recruited in the Russian Army. Dev, who arrived in Goraya from Delhi, said that he had fought for the Russian Army for 5 months. He was shot on his leg and arm. 3 thousand Indians like me are trapped in the Russian army. Many have been killed whose families are not even known. Dev said that no youth should go with e-Visa. It becomes illegal as soon as it goes and then you have no choice. Same thing happened with me and also with Mandeep.
Congress MLA said – Central government was negligent Congress MLA from Phillaur, Vikram Singh Chaudhary, who arrived when Mandeep’s dead body arrived, said that whatever happened to Mandeep was due to the negligence of the Central Government and the police administration. The Punjab government will take up the matter of Mandeep’s death with the police administration.
Father reached from Ludhiana in hope of information about his son On receiving information about Mandeep’s dead body, Charanjit Singh from village Daba of Ludhiana also reached Goraya. He told that his son Samarpreet Singh had gone to Moscow, Russian city in July 2025. While studying there, he was recruited as a doctor’s assistant in the Russian Army. In September, we talked for 11 to 12 seconds through video call and after that till date we have not been able to talk to his son.
