A major upheaval has started in the country in fields like IT, law, commerce, translation, design and library science. AI tools have either eliminated or greatly shrunk the tasks for which millions of students pursue degrees each year.
A big HR company like TeamLease says that 40% of the companies consider ‘hybrid skill’ i.e. knowledge of AI tools along with degree as essential. Nasscom’s 2024 report says that 82% of BCA and MCA graduates in the country do not have formal training in AI tools.
According to the World Economic Forum report, jobs will remain with those who can increase productivity by 40% using AI tools.
The IBM Institute for Business Value report says AI will not replace people, but those who use AI will replace those who do not. According to the ‘Future of Jobs Report 2025’, 22% jobs may be affected by 2030.
Here, China has canceled or suspended more than 12,200 graduate (undergraduate) programs in its universities between 2021 and 2025, while starting about 10,200 new programs.

Expert said – If the method is not changed then degrees will have no value
Dainik Bhaskar discussed the impact of AI with Pankaj Bansal, co-founder and HR of tech company ‘Peoplestrong’ and ‘Tagged’ and asked him 10 questions, which he answered.
- What will happen to those with traditional degrees?Traditional degrees will not be completely obsolete, but their form is becoming irrelevant. If the method and content of studies are not changed, then those degrees will have no value left. The need for average students with only theory or rote learning in the market is disappearing. Will have to upgrade.
- What can those who are taking a degree do?Students who are currently in second or third year should start working on live projects. Take a professional license of AI tools, work on it day and night for 6 months and create software or websites.
- What should those who have completed their degree do?The best way is internship and practical project. If you are not getting a chance in a big company, then approach small startups, NGOs or any factory or shop in your local area. Understand their problems and solve them with AI.
- How much value will be left in ‘Graduation’?In India, ‘stamping’ of graduation is currently required for shortlisting job applications and this situation will continue for the next 3 to 5 years. But after this, the ‘5.5 credit score’ of New Education Policy (NEP) will replace it, where marks will be gained through practical work and professional courses. In the future, people will ask whether you are a ‘5.5 scaler’ or not. After your first job in the tech world, no one will ask about your degree.
- In such a situation, what is the good way to get a job?The best way is to become a ’10x Engineer’ or ’10x Professional’ i.e. one who can single-handedly handle the work of 10 normal people. If you can save time and cost of a company with the help of AI, then where the first Rs. 5 lakhs. Earlier, an initial package of Rs. 25 lakh was available, whereas today the companies are offering Rs. 25 lakh. Willing to pay starting salary of Rs. Companies don’t want ‘average’ people, they want useful people.
- Are the claims of jobs from AI courses true?no way. Taking AI certificate from any street corner organization does not guarantee a job. AI certificate can help the CV to get shortlisted, but you will get the job only if you have basic qualification, practical knowledge of AI and clear assessment test.
- What and how much impact is this having on the jobs of entry level i.e. freshers? There is definitely pressure in the initial phase because the basic work which was earlier done by 10 people is now being done by two people with the help of AI. Traditional companies like Infosys, Wipro and TCS have initially stopped or postponed the hiring of freshers. But this is only a short-term trend, in the long-term there is going to be a net addition (increase of jobs) in the job market.
- When IT companies are stopping recruitment, where will the new youth get jobs? There is currently a flood of Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India. There are more than 4000 GCCs in the country and two new centers are opening every week. These centers are hiring youth with AI skills on very heavy packages and high salaries. Apart from this, gradually recruitment in traditional companies has also started opening again.
- Will AI completely replace humans, will it cost less than humans?Global organizations are beginning to understand that the cost of AI (token and GPU processing cost) is no less than human cost. The AI bills of many startups are so high that they are finding it better to hire two humans instead of AI tools. Additionally, AI can never replace tasks that require human judgment and interaction with people.
- What are those human qualities and sectors, where humans will be at the forefront? In the era of AI, four human qualities have become the most valuable – Aggregation Ability (understanding of connecting things together), Decision Making (decision making ability), High EQ (Emotional Quotient) and the skill to express one’s point effectively. If we talk about sectors, the roles of hospitality, data sciences, sales and AI-assisted specialists (like doctors or journalists who know AI) will always be safe and strong.

China finished 12 thousand degrees, started AI course
China’s universities canceled or suspended more than 12,200 graduate (undergraduate) programs between 2021 and 2025, while opening about 10,200 new programs.
Many of these cuts were focused in the arts, humanities, foreign languages and management, as the Chinese government puts pressure on universities to produce talents for AI, semiconductors, robotics and other strategic industries.
