Yunus met Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif during the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The meeting took place on Wednesday, in which trade and economic relations between the two countries were discussed.

This was the second meeting of these leaders, the first meeting was in UNGA last year. Since the formation of an interim government under the leadership of Younis in August 2024 in Bangladesh, the relationship between the two countries has increased.

Previously, the relationship between the two countries was tense under the 15 -year rule of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government. The reason for this was issues such as 1971 massacres, war crimes cases and politics.

Yunus appealed to American companies to increase investment in Bangladesh

The US-Bangladesh Business Council (USBBC) on Wednesday made a ‘US-Bangladesh Executive Business Round Table: Advanceing Reform, Regulation and Growth’ at a hotel in New York.

In this, Younus appealed to the US top companies to invest more in Bangladesh. Yunus said in the meeting that there are many opportunities for investment in Bangladesh and the country’s economy is getting stronger.

He said that in February next year, Bangladesh will have fair elections and the new government will create more favorable environment for investors.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of big American companies like MetLife, Chevron and Accelerate Energy. He also interacted with Bangladesh’s political representative team.

BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and National Citizen Party leaders were present in the team. Aunus introduced these leaders to American businessmen. Advisors of foreign affairs and energy were also present in the meeting.
