However, West Bengal BJP leaders have distanced themselves from these statements. He said that Nagendra Roy’s comments are purely his personal opinion and the party neither supports it nor accepts it as the party’s views.

Protestors had surrounded Mamata Banerjee
This incident happened just two days after the Halishahar incident. On Sunday, Mamata Banerjee’s car was surrounded by protesters. It is alleged that the protesters raised slogans of ‘thief’ and also threw mud and slippers against Mamata, who came to meet the family of a TMC worker after his death in police custody. The policemen had cleared the way by forming a circle around his car.
Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday focused her attention on the freedom movement and mentioned Netaji, Mahatma Gandhi and Matangini Hazra. He said that his party does not organize programs just for ‘show’, but respects the freedom fighters from the heart.
TMC accused BJP
TMC alleged that the demonstration in Shyambazar was deliberately carried out by people supporting BJP to disrupt the program and insult Mamata. BJP has denied any role in the Halisahar incident and has described these protests as a display of public anger against Mamata.
CM Shubhendu Adhikari had also denied the party’s role in the Halishahar incident. He called it ‘public anger’ against Mamata and said that people called him a ‘thief’ because he had stolen a lot.
