India has reacted to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari’s inflammatory statement regarding India’s mosque. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, Pakistan has no right to comment on India’s internal affairs.

In the press release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday, it was said that Pakistan’s own record in the matter of human rights has been very poor, which is discussed all over the world.

In such a situation, such statements from Pakistan’s side seem absurd. Pakistan has a long history of systematically targeting and persecuting minorities of different religions.

In fact, Zardari had said that many historical Muslim religious places in India are in danger. He especially mentioned the Ganj Shaheeda Masjid of Varanasi. To which the Railways has issued a notice of illegal construction.

Zardari had said – action on Muslim religious places in India may increase tension

The President’s Office of Pakistan issued a press note on Saturday. In which Zardari said that many historical Muslim religious places in India are in danger. He especially mentioned the Ganj Shaheeda Masjid of Varanasi, which he described as about 1000 years old mosque.

Zardari appealed to India to immediately stop any action against such religious places. He says that this can increase social tension and create instability in the country.

He also said that India should protect the rights of minorities and shared cultural heritage.

Now know what is the Ganj Shaheeda Masjid controversy of Varanasi…

Under the redevelopment and multi-modal transport hub project of Varanasi’s Kashi railway station, the railway administration had issued a notice to the Ganj Shaheeda Masjid located near the station, asking it to vacate the premises by June 20. Railways say that the mosque is an illegal structure built on railway land and action is being taken after the verdict in August 2024 in a civil case filed in 1991.

Railways says that after the case filed in 1991 was dismissed on August 28, 2024, the way was cleared for the removal of the mosque. At the same time, the Mosque Management Committee claims that the matter was not related to the existence of the mosque, but to the land on its eastern side and the Railways is misinterpreting the court’s decision.
