Three people were killed when the railing of an eight-storey building collapsed in Dhaka’s Armanitola area on Friday morning.
An earthquake of 5.7 magnitude occurred in Bangladesh at around 10:08 am (Indian time) on Friday morning. 3 people have died in this. While more than 200 have been injured.
The epicenter of the earthquake was at Madhabadi in Narsingdi, just 25 kilometers from Dhaka. The tremors were so strong that due to its impact a ten-storey building tilted to the other side. There itself, The ongoing Bangladesh-Ireland international cricket match in Bangladesh was also stopped.
Local media reports are claiming the death of 6 people. However, till now the police have confirmed 3 deaths. The largest earthquake ever in Bangladesh occurred in 1762. Its intensity was 8.5 on the Richter scale. It is known as ‘Great Arakan Earthquake’. Due to this, there was huge loss in Bangladesh also.

Stampede in textile factory after earthquake
A major accident occurred during the earthquake in Sripur, Ghazipur. Panic caused a stampede while trying to escape from a multi-storey building, in which more than 150 workers were injured.
The incident took place in a textile factory named Denimek. The injured have been admitted to Sripur Upazila Health Centre. The workers complained that the authorities had refused to open the main gate of the factory after the earthquake. This spread panic due to which more people were injured.
10 month old girl died due to earthquake
A 10-month-old girl died after a wall collapsed in Narayanganj’s Rupganj upazila during this morning’s earthquake. The child’s mother and a neighbor were injured and are currently undergoing treatment at a private medical college hospital in the upazila.
“As soon as the earthquake was felt, the child’s mother came out of the house with her daughter. As they were walking to her mother’s house nearby, a wall on the roadside suddenly collapsed on them,” the girl’s mother told The Daily Star. The police officer said that the girl died on the spot.
Tremors were felt in Kolkata for 20 seconds
Earthquake tremors were felt in Kolkata at 10:10 am on Friday. According to local people, the tremors were felt for about 20 seconds.
Its intensity on the Richter scale was 5.2. There is no news of any damage so far.
