Thousands of Hindus took to the streets to protest in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka on Friday night. Angered by the stopping of the project of construction of Lord Ram’s statue, people of Hindu community took out a march with torches in their hands.
The protesters allege that during a temple project in Palashbari area of Gaibandha district of northern Bangladesh, fundamentalists desecrated the image of Lord Ram and forcibly stopped the construction work.
This march started from Shahbagh and reached National Press Club. Slogans of Jai Shri Ram kept echoing all the way. It included members and students of different Hindu organizations.
The protesters demanded arrest of the culprits and immediate action. He says that despite a case being registered regarding the incident, no one has been arrested yet. A minor clash between police and protesters was also reported during a small demonstration in Rangpur.

Statues of Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva were also to be made.
Construction of an 81-feet tall statue of Lord Ram was going on in a proposed temple complex at Palashbari in Gaibandha district. Along with this, a 53-foot statue of Lord Krishna and a 30-foot statue of Lord Shiva were also being made. The estimated cost of this entire project is said to be around 22 crore Bangladeshi Taka i.e. 16.9 crore rupees.
According to Sri Sri Radha Govind Mandir Committee, during the construction work, some alleged Islamic groups issued threats, after which the work had to be stopped. The committee said the situation had become tense and construction was temporarily halted due to security reasons.
The protesters allege that during this time, during a demonstration, the picture of Lord Ram was insulted and damaged.

Ultimatum and warning of nationwide movement
Hindu organizations have given an ultimatum of 72 hours to the government. He has clearly said that if action is not taken then a big movement will be started. The organizations have also announced to meet the Prime Minister and submit a formal memorandum. This memorandum will be submitted to the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Saturday.
Along with this, preparations are being made for rallies and protest programs across the country. Some organizations have also talked about starting Ram temple construction campaign in 64 districts. The Hindu organization alleged that the government was being lax in taking action in this matter.
