John Bolton was the National Security Advisor (NSA) to US President Donald Trump in his previous term (2017-2021).

A case has been registered against John Bolton, who was the National Security Advisor (NSA) during the previous tenure of US President Donald Trump, on charges of misuse and leaking of confidential information. Bolton has been charged with eight counts of leaking national defense information and 10 counts of possessing classified information.

According to the US Justice Department’s investigation, Bolton had saved notes of his activities in an email account while working in the Trump government. He often sent these notes to himself or shared them with his family. These included matters related to national security. Investigators suspect that these notes were confidential information.

Bolton’s email was hacked by Iranian hackers in 2021. He had threatened that if action was not taken against Bolton, he would leak this information, just like Hillary Clinton’s emails were leaked in 2016.

The investigating agency FBI started investigating this case from 2022 and only now have formal charges been framed against him.

Trump called Bolton a bad man

US President Trump reacted after the framing of charges against Bolton and said that he is a bad man, you will be punished as you wish.

However, the investigation against Bolton began during the tenure of former President Joe Biden. The FBI began a formal investigation into Bolton in 2022. Many printed confidential documents were found during the search of the house.

However, even while living in the White House, Bolton had a secret compartment (SCIF) in his home, where confidential documents were allowed to be kept.

But in 2019 when this facility was removed. They were then instructed to no longer keep any classified information at home or in email.

Bolton’s allegation said – Trump is taking revenge

Bolton has called the allegations an act of revenge. He said that this is a way to scare Trump’s critics, I will legally answer the false allegations against me.

Bolton’s lawyer says the matter had already been settled. The lawyer said that keeping a diary was not a crime and these documents were already recorded in the FBI’s records.

Bolton said,

I have worked for America’s security policy for 40 years. Trump previously tried to stop my book The Room Where It Happened. Now they are targeting me through this case. This is the same thinking that Soviet dictator Stalin’s police chief had – ‘Show me the man, I will find out his crime.’

Bolton said the FBI had full knowledge of his emails being hacked, yet no administration initially pressed charges.

Bolton wanted to make a book from his diary

Investigation revealed that Bolton, along with two of his family members, wanted to convert his diary into a book. His messages show that he was including sensitive government information in his notes.

This diary of Bolton later became the foundation of his book The Room Where It Happened (2020). The Trump administration has been strongly criticized in this book.
