The second season of the series ‘Sapne Vs Everyone’ is not just a story, but a real journey of struggle, breakdown and then standing up again. In conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, writer-director-actor Ambrish Verma, actor Paramveer Singh Cheema and Vijayant Kohli openly told how this show is very close to their lives.

Here are some highlights..

Question: What does ‘Dreams vs Everyone’ mean to you? How special is Season 2?

Answer/Ambarish Verma: This is the closest show of my life. Its stories are very personal and such stories are not found very often, which can change someone’s thinking or life. Season 2 is not just a career opportunity for me, it is a responsibility – to say something that impacts people.

Vijayant Kohli: Season 1 ended on a happy ending, so people were wondering whether Season 2 would come or not. But when the first season was so loved, making a second one became a responsibility. This time the expectation is also high.

Paramveer Singh Cheema: This show is not just good, it motivates people. It has changed me from within too. Even today, watching this, I remind myself not to stray from my true nature.

Question: Did this show change your thinking?

Answer/Paramveer Singh Cheema: Yes, a lot. People gradually become a little vicious in the industry, but this show reminded me to stick to my values. Whenever negative thoughts come, I tell myself – “Leave fear, move forward.”

Question: Losing a dream is like dying, have you felt like that?

Answer/Paramveer Singh Cheema: Every person goes through this phase. During Covid, I had given up my dreams and returned home. Many times there is so much burnout that it seems everything is over. But then after giving yourself time, after pausing for a while, you have to get up again, this is the real battle.

Question: Did you ever feel like giving up the fight?

Answer/Paramveer Singh Cheema: Yes, I left it during Covid. There was a problem of money, survival was difficult. I am from a farmer family, I knew how money was coming from home. But my father said- “I am with you, why are you giving up?” That very thing became the turning point for me.

Question: Ambrish, how did your story become so relatable? Are you broken yourself?

Answer/Ambarish Verma: Breakups are a part of everyone’s life. Earlier these things used to hit me very hard and the effect remained for a long time. Then I realized that we give more importance to things, that is why there is more pain. When perspective changes, the same things don’t seem as heavy.

Question: Is destination or journey more important in life?

Answer/Ambarish Verma: We associate life with milestones – like promotion, money, marriage. But real life is what happens in between. When this is understood, the impact of things reduces.

Vijayant Kohli: We keep running, but forget to stop and live. If small happiness is not enjoyed, this race will never end.

Question: What was the biggest chance you got in life?

Answer/Paramveer Singh Cheema: I got a non-Punjabi character in this show, this was a life-changing opportunity for me. Because of this, people started looking at me in a different light.

Ambrish Verma: Leaving the job and starting writing was the biggest chance. It was nothing, but that same risk changed my life.

Vijayant Kohli: This show broke my “soft” image and gave me an opportunity to play a different kind of character.

Question: Most difficult phase or rejection?

Answer/Ambarish Verma: There was no work after leaving the job in 2019. There was both guilt and fear – what am I doing? That phase was very difficult, but from there the path was made.

Vijayant Kohli: Rejection happens every day in an actor’s life. The biggest lesson is to accept it.

Question: Did you ever feel that the decision was wrong?

Answer/Ambarish Verma: If you are asking someone whether to leave or not, then you are not ready. When you are convinced from within, you take action yourself. I also left the job without asking.

Question: There were reports of leaving big projects like ‘Mardaani 3’ and ‘Dhurandhar’, what is the truth?

Answer/Paramveer Singh Cheema: The matter of ‘Mardaani 3’ was simple, at that time I could do only one film. I had the option of ‘Tere Ishq Mein’ and ‘Mardaani 3’. I chose ‘Tere Ishq Mein’ because I wanted to work with Anand sir and it felt right at that time. As far as a role like ‘Dhurandhar’ is concerned, every role has its timing.

If I had got the same role 2 years ago, I probably would have done it. But now I felt that he was not the right fit for me. I believe that every person has his own destiny and his own journey. And one thing, if I keep doing every role myself, what will others do?

Question: Do you get offered dream roles now?

Answer/Paramveer Singh Cheema: Yes, many times calls come that “I have to do Sapne wala character.” But I say clearly, if the same thing has to be done, then take someone else. I don’t want to repeat myself.

Vijayant Kohli: Same thing happens to me. People offer similar roles. Then we have to say, write a little different, give something new, only then it will be fun.

Question: Most memorable occasion or chance?

Answer/Paramveer Singh Cheema: When Ambrish Bhai chose me for this role, it was life-changing for me. Even today I message him and say, you gave me the best character of my life.

Ambrish Verma: It was lucky for me too that I found such actors who fit the character. This made my work easier.

Question: What is the real message of this show?

Answer/Ambarish Verma: If your work can bring even a little change in someone’s life, then that is the biggest success.

Paramveer Singh Cheema: This show teaches – you will be afraid, you will fall, but don’t give up yourself.

Vijayant Kohli: And most importantly – learn to live the journey, don’t just run after the destination.
