न हाउस मिला, न सीनेट… मिडटर्म में रिपब्लिकन क्यों हारे? ट्रंप ने ईरान युद्ध समेत गिनाईं 5 वजहें

President Donald Trump’s Republican Party has suffered a major setback in America’s midterm elections. The Democrats have achieved majority in the House of Representatives as well as the Senate. With this result, the Democratic Party has taken control of both houses of the US Parliament. This is a big political blow for Trump, because in the first two years of his second term, the Republican Party had a majority in both houses of Congress.

After the defeat, Trump, while talking to Fox News, New York Times and other media organizations, clarified his party’s performance. He acknowledged that the Iran war and related inflation influenced the election, but did not consider it a public opinion against his leadership. Trump listed five reasons for the defeat. These include expensive petrol, their own not being a candidate in the election, weakness of Republican candidates, Fox News giving more space to the opposition and vigorous campaigning by the Democrats.

1. Iran war and rising petrol prices

Trump admitted that the Iran war was a reason for the defeat of the Republican Party. Speaking to Fox News, he said that people may agree with his decision regarding Iran, but they were not ready to face the initial and immediate impact of paying higher prices for petrol and gasoline. Trump said, “I understand this, although I do not agree with it.”

Oil and gas prices have increased due to the war with Iran. This had an impact on the pockets of American families and inflation became a major issue in the elections. However, Trump also made it clear that he has no regrets about starting a war against Iran. Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, he also denied plans to make a large-scale change in officials in his administration and supported Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

2. Trump himself was not in the electoral fray

Trump’s second argument on the Republican defeat was that his name was not on the ballot. He said that if he himself had been contesting the elections, the party would have got a huge victory unilaterally. Trump also said in a conversation with Fox News that his absence from the field had an impact on the results. He claims that voters are more enthusiastic to vote for him, whereas local candidates did not get the same support.

3. Candidates’ own weakness

Trump also held the party’s candidates responsible for the defeat. According to him, many candidates did not get the support of the voters and some were not liked by the party supporters. He said that the candidates on many seats had their own shortcomings. Trump stressed that he does not consider these results an attack on his leadership. According to him, his government has done good work in two years and it is not right to link the defeat with his policies.

4. Fox News also held responsible

Trump also targeted Fox News for the Republican defeat. He wrote on the social media platform Truth Social that Fox News was continuously giving space to the leaders of the Democratic Party and the opposition on its channel. He took a dig at the network by taking the name of former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio. Trump wrote that Fox News is also responsible for these defeats, because it continuously showed the opposition.

5. Democrats contested the election strongly

Trump cited the hard work of the Democratic Party as the fifth reason. While talking to Fox News, he praised the opposition party and said that the Democrats did a good job and contested the elections strongly. He said that there was a different kind of feeling in the atmosphere at that time. Trump also said that he should not feel guilty for this defeat.

Accepted defeat, but also warned of veto

While talking to The New York Times, Trump talked about accepting the election results and working with the Democrats in the interest of the country. He said that he is ready to work together with the opposition and both sides can reach an agreement. However, speaking to Fox News, he warned that if the Democrats passed any “absurd” bill and sent it to him, he would veto it. That is, along with talking about cooperation, Trump also made it clear that there will be a possibility of conflict between the White House and Congress in the coming two years.
