Protests against the Pakistan government have intensified in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Thousands of people gathered at Idgah Ground in Rawalakot on Tuesday.
He declared that PoK is not a part of Pakistan. They allege that the Pakistan government is deliberately stopping the supply of essential goods to suppress the movement.
This movement is going on under the leadership of Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (JAAC). According to media reports, the Pakistan government has recently banned the organization. After this, prominent JAAC leader Shaukat Nawaz Mir was arrested along with two associates from Sangar Fattare area of Dhirkot. More than 600 leaders and activists of JAAC have also been detained across PoK.
The Pakistan government had also announced a reward of ₹1 crore for information leading to the arrest of JAAC leaders including Shaukat Nawaz Mir.
Sardar Aman Khan said – Pakistan needs us, not us
During the protest, JAAC leader Sardar Aman Khan said, ‘We do not need your ration, you need us. If the supply of essential goods remains stopped then people will be forced to choose another way to survive.
The movement started due to inflation, now it has become a political issue
According to reports, the movement started over issues of inflation, food crisis, rising prices and local administration. Now it has taken the form of political protest against the Pakistan government. Recently, Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had described the people of Rawalakot and Mirpur as ‘not real Kashmiris’. After this the protests increased further.
According to the report, cases have also been registered against many leaders and workers of JAAC under anti-terrorism law. The government had banned JAAC under the anti-terrorism law on June 5. Since then, tension in the area is continuously increasing.

Internet shut down, 22 deaths claimed
According to the report, internet services have been limited in many areas of PoK since the beginning of June. The protesters allege that this has been done to prevent photos and videos of the movement from going out. Reports claim that at least 22 people have died in clashes between protesters and security forces in the last two weeks.
Elections will be held in PoK on 27th July
After Gilgit-Baltistan, assembly elections will be held in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) on July 27. PoK has a total of 53 seats in the assembly. Of these, 45 seats are directly elected, while 8 seats are reserved for women, technical experts and religious scholars.
