Outgoing Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh Anurag Jain has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) issued its order on Wednesday evening. He will remain on this post for two years from the date of assuming charge. After this order, the General Administration Department of Madhya Pradesh has temporarily appointed senior IAS officer Ashok Baranwal (batch 1991) as the new acting Chief Secretary of the state. His appointment has been made with immediate effect till further orders. Anurag Jain, a 1989 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, was made the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh on 3 October 2024. He was given one year extension after retirement in 2025. His tenure ends on 31 August 2026. Madhya Pradesh government was to appoint the new Chief Secretary from October 1, but now the selection process is likely to be completed in July itself. Rajoura, Govil and Aggarwal also had claims. At present, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Rajoura is the most senior among the IAS officers of Madhya Pradesh cadre after Chief Secretary Anurag Jain. In this respect, his claim for the post of Chief Secretary was the strongest. Apart from him, Manoj Govil, Pankaj Aggarwal posted at the Center were also included in this list. Similarly, names of Additional Chief Secretary level officers Manu Srivastava and Neeraj Mandloi were also in discussion.
