US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have no plans to stop Andrew and Tristan Tate from being extradited to the UK, according to a report by Axios. Citing US officials, the report said Rubio does not intend to use his legal authority to block the extradition.
A senior US State Department official also told Axios that Rubio has not spoken to the Tate brothers or their lawyers and that the department has “no plans to act on this matter at this time.”
The outlet further reported that Rubio has no intention of using his legal authority to block the extradition, even though the department says he has the sole discretion to do so if he believes the brothers are being politically persecuted.
Trump ‘wants nothing to do’ with Tate brothers
Another US official familiar with Rubio’s thinking told Axios“Marco thinks these guys are scum.”
The official added that while Trump could overrule Rubio, such a move was unlikely, noting that the US president “wants nothing to do” with the Tate brothers.
A former Trump campaign adviser further claimed the brothers were not part of Trump’s 2024 election strategy despite their public support.
“The Tates want to pretend they were responsible for the president’s victory [in 2024]but they weren’t part of our strategy and the president doesn’t know them,” the adviser said.
Tate brothers to challenge new sex crime charges
The Tate brothers were arrested by US marshals in Miami on Saturday after British authorities announced 38 new sex crime charges. They are expected to fight their extradition in US courts.
Their lawyer, Joseph McBride, insisted the brothers are innocent and said the case as “politically motivated”.
“We are, of course, objecting to extradition because Andrew and Tristan are innocent. They’ve never done nothing wrong,” McBride told reporters outside a Miami federal court. “It’s politically motivated. There’s no question about it.”
McBride also claimed the arrests from UK prosecutors include rape, human trafficking and assault. The new came just days after the brothers visited Washington and met members of Congress.
Criminal charges against Tate brothers
The latest charges from UK prosecutors include rape, human trafficking and assault. The new allegations bring the total number of charges against the brothers to 59 — 42 against Andrew Tate and 17 against Tristan Tate.
The brothers were also indicted in Romania in 2023, where they face separate allegations including human trafficking, trafficking of minors, sexual offences involving a minor and money laundering. They deny all wrongdoing.
Andrew Tate, a controversial online influencer known for promoting “manosphere” content and misogynistic views to millions of followers, has remained a highly divisive public figure. Florida authorities also opened a criminal investigation into the brothers earlier this year, although the status of that inquiry remains unclear.
