Question: Why is India the target of smugglers?

Answer: India is located between the world’s two largest illicit drugs production areas, the Golden Crescent (Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran) and the Golden Triangle (Myanmar, Laos, Thailand).

Taking advantage of this geographical location, smugglers try to use India as both a transit route and a major market for drugs to reach other countries. This is the reason why India remains the target of drug smuggling networks.
