The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has once again suffered a major setback in Delhi. In the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), 13 city councilors of AAP have resigned. He has also announced to form a third front called Indraprastha Vikas Party.

Hemchand Goyal will lead the new front. The other 12 resigned councilors include Mukesh Goyal, Himani Jain, Runakshi Sharma, Usha Sharma, Ashok Pandey, Rakhi Yadav, Sahib Kumar, Rajesh Kumar Ladi, Manisha, Suman Anil Rana, Devinder Kumar and Dinesh Bhardwaj.

Municipal elections were held on 25 April in Delhi. AAP announced the election boycott. There was a contest between the BJP and the Congress, in which BJP candidate Raja Iqbal Singh won with 133 votes. Congress candidate Mandeep Singh got only eight votes.

Councilors issued a press release saying, ‘All of us were selected by AAP ticket in the year 2022 in Councilors MCD. However, despite winning the election in 2022, the top leadership of the party could not run the MCD properly.

‘The coordination of big leaders with councilors remained negligible, due to which the party came into opposition. We are resigning from the primary membership of the councilor party for not fulfilling the promise made to the public.

AAP won by 3 votes in 2022 election In the Mayor election of November 2022, AAP candidate Mahesh was defeated by BJP’s Kishan Lal by just three votes and became the mayor. Khinchi got 133, while Kishan Lal got 130 votes. Two votes were declared illegal. Then BJP had 104 councilors and AAP had 134 councilors.

Actually, 10 AAP councilors had cross voting. There was equal 132–132 votes in favor of both AAP and BJP, but two BJP votes were declared invalid. During the voting, a Congress councilor Sabila Begum voted for AAP. In this way AAP got another vote and its figure reached 133 while BJP got stuck on 130.
