The mother of 31-year-old software engineer Vinay Gupta has recalled the horrific moments when her son was allegedly attacked and killed by members of his wife’s family following a marital dispute.
Gupta, who worked at Adobe in Noida, was at his home in Nihal Vihar in outer Delhi when the alleged attack took place. His mother said she initially believed the relatives had come to the house for a peaceful visit and had no idea the situation would turn violent.
‘They Came Upstairs, We Thought They Were Relatives’
Recalling the incident, Gupta’s mother said the door was open when the relatives entered the house and went straight upstairs.
She said her husband initially told her there was no issue because they were relatives. Believing they had come for a normal visit, she said she asked her son to switch on the air conditioner and offer them water.
However, the situation quickly turned violent.
“I just went to give them a glass of water. They had pinned down my boy. They threw him on the bed and grabbed him by the neck. They kicked and punched him in the stomach,” she said.
Gupta’s mother said she and her husband were also attacked when they tried to intervene.
“His father was thrown aside. I went to save him, and I was also thrown aside. Then I called out to neighbours here. By the time they arrived, they had finished my boy. He died on the way to the hospital. I only had one child,” she said.
Gupta’s father is a cancer patient.
Family Alleges Attack Was Planned
According to Gupta’s family, the incident began with a minor household argument between Vinay and his wife, Rekha Gupta.
The family alleged that Rekha called her relatives, including her two brothers, father, mother, sister-in-law and uncle, to the house before the alleged attack.
Gupta’s mother accused her daughter-in-law of orchestrating the killing and intentionally switching off the CCTV cameras beforehand.
“Give her to us, and we will punish her with our own hands. She orchestrated his murder and left. They grabbed him by his hands, choked his throat, jumped on his chest and killed him right before my eyes within five minutes. Everything went dark before my eyes,” she told reporters.
Sister Questions How Attackers Arrived So Quickly
Vinay’s sister, who was present at the house, also alleged that the attack was a planned ambush.
She said her sister-in-law left the house after an argument in the morning and returned with six men from her family within a short time.
“Within just 10 minutes, she returned with six men from her family. She led them upstairs,” the sister said.
She questioned how the relatives could have reached the house in just 10 minutes when, according to the family, they lived around 30 minutes away.
“It was completely pre-planned. Everything was orchestrated in advance. They refused the water, grabbed my brother by his hair, choked his throat and killed him,” she alleged.
Vinay’s sister further alleged that his wife frequently fought with the family over minor issues and threatened them.
Police Detain Four Accused
Vinay and Rekha had been married for three-and-a-half years. He is survived by his wife and their two twin children, who are just a couple of months old.
Police have detained four accused in connection with the murder case and are searching for a fifth accused who remains on the run.
A forensic team has examined the crime scene, while investigators are working to establish the exact sequence of events surrounding the alleged attack.
