Dr. Jahed’s name was in a watchlist of Indian security agencies, due to which he was checked at the airport.

Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, was stopped at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. According to sources, the immigration officials kept him sitting in the waiting room for about two hours and interrogated him on several issues.

After this he asked for his passport back and refused to come to India. Later he reached Dhaka on Monday morning via Colombo. He had come to Delhi to attend the meeting of senior officials of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

The High Commissioner had already informed about the trip

An official of the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh said that on Friday itself, the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi had officially informed the Indian Ministry of External Affairs that Dr. Zahed will lead the Bangladeshi delegation at the IORA meeting.

Bangladesh High Commissioner M. Riyaz Hamidullah had also talked to Indian officials regarding this visit. For this reason, many senior officials in Dhaka are calling this entire incident mysterious. He says that despite giving official information in advance, how such a situation arose at the airport is beyond comprehension.

Claim- Zaheed’s name was in the watchlist of security agencies.

People close to Dr. Zahed claim that his name was on a watchlist of Indian security agencies, due to which he was subjected to additional scrutiny. He alleges that his name was included in this list because of allegations of creating or circulating anti-India material. However, Indian officials have neither confirmed nor denied these claims.

According to the information, Dr. Zahed was not traveling on diplomatic passport but on ordinary Bangladeshi passport and SAARC visa. He did not even have any government request letter for this journey.

Officials at the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi declined to comment on the matter. However, an official, on condition of anonymity, said that not all departments of the mission were aware of the incident.

Officer said – no misbehavior was done with Zaheed

Many sources also said that the Indian officials did not misbehave with Dr. Jahed. He believes that lack of coordination and communication related to travel could be a reason for this situation. However, no official explanation has come forward yet.

Government sources in Dhaka say that the entire matter is being reviewed and further decisions will be taken after the facts emerge. At present, official clarification is awaited from New Delhi.
