Despite police warnings and threat of arrest, he went to sing citing his compulsion. Kumar Sanu sang the song in front of Dawood in Dubai. Kumar Sanu told that music director Nadeem had taken him to Dubai. He was only told that he had to sing at someone’s birthday party. There Dawood Ibrahim was sitting in front with his family. Anu Malik was also present in that event. Sanu told that Dawood had requested for his favorite songs to be sung on stage. At that time he had no idea whose show he had come to. When his photo appeared in the newspapers after his return to India, he was horrified at what he had done. After that meeting he never met Dawood. Police warning on Abu Salem’s show, still went to sing. While sharing an incident related to gangster Abu Salem, Sanu told that some people had asked him for money. Sanu refused to pay the money and said that if there was any work or show, he could sing the song. After this he went to Dubai to sing in a show of Abu Salem. Before leaving, a call was received from the police station and advice was given not to go there. Police officials had said that if they went they would be arrested. On this Sanu said that he is a singer and singing is his compulsion, hence the police should give him protection. Despite not getting security, he went, performed and returned safely. Sanu spoke on underworld funding in Bollywood. On the connection between Bollywood and underworld in the 90s, Kumar Sanu said that in that period, most of the funding of films came from the underworld. The one who invested money ruled the industry. Sanu said that he never tried to go too deep into these things and always kept himself away from such matters. They only concentrated on their work, that is why they remained safe and no one noticed them. Kumar Sanu sang 20 thousand songs. Kumar Sanu started his career with the Bangladeshi film ‘Teen Kanya’. By the way, the credit for bringing Sanu into Hindi films goes to Jagjit Singh. He had offered Kumar Sanu to sing a song in the film ‘Aandhiyan’. Jagjit Singh made him meet Kalyanji Anand and after his advice he changed his name from Kedarnath Bhattacharya to Kumar Sanu. Sanu has sung about 20 thousand songs. He has sung many great songs like ‘Dil Ka Alam…’ (film ‘Aashiqui’, 1990), ‘Dil Ka Rishta..’ (film ‘Dil Ka Rishta’, 2003), ‘Raja Ko Rani Se…’ (film ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’, 1995), ‘Pardesi Pardesi…’ (film ‘Raja Hindustani’, 1996). Sanu has sung songs in about 75 films for music director duo Nadeem-Shravan. Apart from this, he has sung songs in 60 films for Anu Malik, 30 films for Jatin-Lalit and 25 films for Rajesh Roshan.
