The seat sharing between Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Congress party for the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu has been confirmed. DMK has given 28 seats to Congress. Apart from this, the party has also been given one Rajya Sabha seat. According to party leaders, this decision was taken on Wednesday by DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K. Selvaperunthagai. In the last elections, Congress had won 18 seats. Elections are to be held for 234 seats of Tamil Nadu Assembly in the coming April. In the 2021 assembly elections, DMK won 133 seats, while Congress got 18 seats. The DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance had won a total of 159 seats. On the other hand, NDA had got 75 seats, in which AIADMK was the largest party in the alliance with 66 seats. The alliance was on the verge of breaking. According to party sources, the alliance between Congress and DMK since 2004 was on the verge of breaking. But, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram met Stalin on Tuesday and after long talks the matter was resolved. Congress had insisted on increasing the number of seats. When things did not work out, Chidambaram was sent for talks. It is being told that Stalin wanted to give only 25 seats to Congress, but after Chidambaram’s meeting with Stalin, an agreement was reached for 28 seats. After 40 years we have got three additional seats and one seat in Rajya Sabha. The party welcomes it. The people of Tamil Nadu need this alliance.
