Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has said that if America tries to occupy Greenland, it will be the end of the military alliance NATO.
In a TV interview, Frederickson said that if America takes military action against any NATO member country, the entire NATO system will collapse. Nothing will be left.
In fact, US President Donald had talked about occupying Greenland in a statement given on Sunday. He was talking to journalists regarding the attack on Venezuela. During this, Trump had said that he would talk on Greenland in 20 days.
Even before this, he had talked many times about bringing Greenland under America’s control. Greenland is an autonomous region of Denmark, which is also a part of NATO. Trump has also not ruled out the possibility of military action.
Denmark and America both NATO members
Denmark and Greenland are part of the Kingdom of Denmark. The Kingdom of Denmark and the United States are both NATO member states. The sovereignty and security of these countries is guaranteed by NATO.
Under this, military action against any one member country is considered an attack on the entire alliance.
The United States has had close relations with Denmark and Greenland. Denmark is a founding member of NATO. The US is allowed to maintain a military base in Greenland under a 1951 defense agreement. Both countries cooperate in security, science, environment and trade.
Greenland PM said – our country is not going to be sold
Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Fredrik Nielsen has said that when the US President talks about military intervention by linking Greenland to Venezuela, it is not only wrong but disrespectful towards our people.
Nielsen issued a statement on January 4 saying – I want to say calmly and clearly from the beginning that there is no reason for panic or concern. Katie Miller’s post, which shows Greenland draped in the American flag, doesn’t change anything.
Controversy erupts over American officer’s wife’s post
Just after the US action in Venezuela, Katie Miller, wife of Stephen Miller, a senior White House official, posted on social media a map of Greenland colored in the colors of the US flag. This increased the dispute further.
“Soon,” Miller captioned his post. This increased fears of American occupation of Greenland and Denmark. Trump has long been talking about including Greenland into the US. In which he has cited national security, mineral resources and the activities of Russia-China in the Arctic region.
Earlier in March, US Vice President JD Vance visited a US military base in Greenland and accused Denmark of under-investing there.

Know what America benefits from Greenland
- Strategic Military Importance: Greenland is located in the Arctic region, which is very important for military and missile surveillance between the US, Europe and Russia. America already has Thule Air Base here, which is necessary for missile warning and monitoring Russian/Chinese activities.

- Natural Resources: Greenland is believed to have large reserves of rare minerals, oil, gas and rare earth elements, which are of great economic and technological importance in the future. China controls 70-90% of their production, so America wants to reduce its dependence.
- New maritime trade routes: Due to global warming, Arctic ice is melting, opening up new shipping routes. Control of Greenland will help the US dominate these routes and stop Russia-China advance in the Arctic region.
- US Security Policy: The US considers Greenland the “front line” of its national security. By increasing its influence there, it wants to prevent possible future threats in advance.
Trump cites Monroe Doctrine to attack Venezuela
President Donald Trump mentioned the Monroe Doctrine in a press conference following the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. Trump said that this action is in accordance with America’s two hundred year old foreign policy.
Trump also said that the Monroe Doctrine is now outdated and America is taking action even further.
The Monroe Doctrine was started in the year 1823 by the then President of America, James Monroe. Its purpose was to prevent European countries from interfering in the affairs of North and South America.
Under this policy, America considered the entire Latin America as its sphere of influence. Later it was used several times to justify US intervention in Latin American countries.
