The US bases were captured by the Taliban government due to the return of the US Army in 2021 and demolished the US -backed government in Kabul. Bagram Airbase was built in the 1950s with the help of the Soviet Union and the United States.

Trump said- if they do not give the base, you will see what I do

On Saturday, when Trump was asked if he would send the US Army to capture the base, he refused to give a direct reply and said, “We will not talk about it. We want the base to meet soon. If they don’t give, you will see what I do.”

Bagram Airbase is 40 km north of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. This was the biggest hideout of the US Army. The US started using it after the 2001 attacks.

There were restaurants like Burger King, Pizza Hut on this airbase. There were also shops selling electronics and Afghani carpets. There was also a large jail complex.

Bagram is a huge military base, spread over about 30 square kilometers.

Trump wants to occupy the base to monitor China

In 2021, US forces returned from Afghanistan. This return which came at the time of Biden administration. The Taliban then captured Bagram Airbase and Kabul’s government.

Trump has criticized Biden’s decision several times. He said that he never leaves Bagram. Trump had said in March 2025 that he wanted to keep Bagram. The reason for this is to monitor China and reach Afghanistan’s mineral resources.

Taliban’s Foreign Ministry official Zakir Jalal said that Afghanistan completely rejects the presence of the US Army.

He said in a post on X that Afghanistan and America need to join each other and they can form economic and political relations on the basis of mutual honor, that too without America’s military presence in any part of Afghanistan.

Jalal said, “Afghanistan has never accepted military presence in history. The possibility was completely rejected during the Doha interaction and agreement, but doors have been opened for trade and other activities.”

China also protested at Trump’s remarks, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Gian in a media briefing in Beijing that “the area would not be supported to promote tension and conflict”.

He said, “China respects Afghanistan’s independence, sovereignty and regional integrity. Afghanistan should be in the hands of Afghan people.”

China established diplomatic relations with the government soon after the Taliban occupied Kabul. China has invested heavily in Afghanistan to resume copper mines and oil reserves.
