A ‘homecoming’ of a Muslim girl was organized at Agastya Muni Ashram in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Here, 18-year-old Jamila Khatoon from Bokaro district of Jharkhand adopted Sanatan religion and married 22-year-old Prakash Ravidas, resident of Hazaribagh, according to Hindu customs. Jamila has adopted Sanatan Dharma and kept her new name Jyoti Devi. Victim Jamila says that she had faith in Lord Shiva from the beginning and used to worship him. Angered by this, her first husband beat her and gave her triple talaq and threw her out of the house. After this, he voluntarily converted his religion and got married.
Got triple talaq because of Shiva puja
Bokaro Jamila Khatun, a resident of village Lodhi Neecha Tola, alleges that her in-laws tortured her for worshiping Lord Shiva. When she refused to leave the puja, the husband beat her and gave her triple talaq. The victim said that she felt suffocated by religious restrictions and the burqa, whereas devotion to Shiva gave her mental peace.
Love affair started through conversation
Jamila, who was feeling helpless after triple talaq, started talking to Prakash Ravidas, a resident of Chano Unchaghana, Hazaribagh. Gradually this conversation turned into a love affair and both decided to live together. In view of the possibility of protest at the local level, both from Jharkhand Bareilly Reached Agastya Muni Ashram.
Marriage solemnized with Vedic chanting
Ashram’s Mahant K.K. On Jamila’s wish, Shankhadhar initiated her through purification, Aachman and chanting Gayatri Mantra as per Sanatan tradition. After this she was named Jyoti Devi. Then Prakash and Jyoti were married amidst Vedic chanting. Jyoti said that in Hindu religion, women are respected like goddesses and she has taken this decision without any pressure.
