Today, there is a festive atmosphere in entire Assam and 46 cities of the country on the release of Zubin Garg’s last film ‘Roi Roi Binale’. Following the sudden demise of Zubin Garg in Singapore on September 19, the film has become an emotional tribute to his fans and music lovers.

Cinemas are running continuous shows from 4:45 in the morning until late at night, and tickets are sold out weeks in advance. The film is being released on a total of 92 screens across the country including 91 screens in Assam and more than 585 shows are scheduled daily for the next seven days in Assam.

Unprecedented record of Assamese cinema

‘Roi Roi Binale’ is the first time that an Assamese film has been released in big cities across the country like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Jaipur, Dehradun, Cuttack, Goa, where generally the name of Assamese cinema is less heard. This film has set a new example at the box office. Such huge demand for tickets has never been seen before in any Assamese or Hindi film. It is not just a film but a flood of emotions of Zubin Garg fans.

The film features Zubin Garg playing the role of a blind singer and has a total of 11 songs, the music of which is composed by Zubin himself. The story of the film shows the struggles of an artist and his relations with the society.

Zubin Garg’s last letter

Before the release, Zubin Garg’s own letter went viral in which he wrote, “Wait, my new film is coming. Must watch. Love, Zubin da.” This letter reached millions of people through his wife Garima’s post, in which she also shared her feelings towards Zubin—”Every word touches the heart, but there is also a burning sensation in this empty chest. One question—what happened on September 19? How, why? There is no peace until answers are found.”

Controversy and search for truth

So far seven people have been arrested in connection with the death of Zubin Garg. His bandmates and co-vocalists have alleged that Zubin was “poisoned” in Singapore. The police investigation is ongoing and several arrests have been made, including organisers, managers and security officers.

Tributes and superhit releases

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the state government will waive tax on part of the film’s earnings. Lakhs of people took part in the funeral procession of Zubin Garg. His house has now become a pilgrimage site for his fans. All Assam Zubin Garg Fan Club organized a tribute meeting at Beltola College which was attended by Garima and famous personalities.
