Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a mega rally in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda on Saturday. This will mark the start of his election campaign in support of BJP candidates in the assembly elections.

Through this rally, PM Modi will appeal for votes for the victory of the candidates of 8 assembly seats of three districts of Chenab valley, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban. Voting will be held here on 18 September.

PM Modi will be the first Prime Minister to visit Doda in the last 50 years. Before him, the last PM’s visit was in 1982. In the 2014 elections, PM Modi had only visited Kishtwar.

Prime Minister Modi will reach Doda at 12.30 pm. After this, he will address a public meeting in Kurukshetra, Haryana at 3.45 pm.

In 2014, BJP had won 25 seats These elections are the first assembly elections in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. There are 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, of which 7 are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 9 for Scheduled Tribes. According to the Election Commission, there are 88.06 lakh voters here.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting all 43 assembly seats in the Jammu division. The Jammu region has long been a stronghold of the BJP. The BJP had 25 MLAs in the previous Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.

Apart from BJP, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had won 28 seats, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) had won 15 seats and Congress had won 12 seats.

On Thursday, 12th September, 6 days before the elections, 3 hideouts of terrorists were discovered in Kupwara, Kulgam and Pulwama districts.
