China has started large-scale military exercises, encircling Taiwan from five sides. The Chinese military has launched live-fire drills by creating separate zones near Taiwan’s north, north-east, west, south and east coast.
In response to China’s action, Taiwan has also started counter combat exercises. Taiwan’s Defense Ministry has said that its Army, Navy and Air Force have been put on alert.
Chinese activities are being closely monitored. Taiwan has deployed its forces and started combat-readiness drills.
Taiwan has accused China of undermining regional peace and stability. According to the Taiwan Coast Guard, China’s military exercises pose a threat to the movement of ships and the safety of fishermen.

Navy, Air Force and Rocket Force deployed together
According to China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Navy, Air Force and Rocket Force have been deployed together in this exercise. Warships, fighter jets, bombers, drones and long-range missiles are also being used in the drill.
Through this, practice is being conducted to target sea and air targets, blockade ports and prevent external interference. Along with this, the Chinese Coast Guard has also been activated in the sea around Taiwan.
This military operation has been named ‘Justice Mission 2025’. The Chinese military has said that this exercise is a warning against interference by Taiwan’s ‘separatist forces’ and outside countries.
The Guardian has quoted defense experts as saying that this time China’s exercise is bigger than before and is being conducted very close to Taiwan.
Especially the military zone created near the east coast is considered important, because from this direction Taiwan can get international help in times of crisis.
Taiwan-America’s arms deal, reason for maneuvers
The reason for this maneuver of China is believed to be the arms deal between America and Taiwan.
America recently announced the sale of arms worth about $11.1 billion to Taiwan, which is the largest defense package so far. This includes modern missile systems, rocket launchers and other military equipment.
This deal enraged China, because it considers Taiwan a part of its territory. It considers any foreign military support Taiwan receives as a direct step against its sovereignty.
Due to this, on December 26, it had announced to impose sanctions on 20 American defense companies and 10 senior officials.
China has tried to send a message by starting live fire maneuvers around Taiwan that it is ready to give a strong response to the countries that provide military support to Taiwan, especially America.
China considers Taiwan as its own
China considers Taiwan as its part and opposes any forcible occupation of it.
Taiwan is just 110 kilometers away from Japan. The maritime area around Taiwan is very important for Japan, as it is an important maritime trade route. Additionally, Japan is home to the largest US military overseas base in the world.
