China’s Foreign Ministry has said that troops have withdrawn from 4 areas including the Galwan Valley on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that the situation on the border is stable and under control.

This statement of the Chinese Foreign Ministry came after NSA Ajit Doval’s meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Russia. Earlier on Thursday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said that 75% of the deadlock issues in eastern Ladakh have been resolved.

However, ANI has claimed in a report citing sources that the issue of Depsang and Demchok in eastern Ladakh is still unresolved. There has been no development between the two sides on these points in the last 3 years.

During this, Ajit Doval stressed on maintaining peace and stability on the border to normalize relations between the two countries. He also asked to respect the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

In this meeting, both the countries agreed to expedite the withdrawal of troops from the remaining areas as soon as possible. NSA Doval stressed that both the countries should fully follow the bilateral agreements, protocols and mutual understandings.

21 rounds of talks have taken place between India and China There has been a confrontation between the Indian and Chinese armies since May 2020. The border dispute between the two countries has not yet yielded any result. However, the armies of both the countries have separated from many points of the LAC. Relations between the two countries also deteriorated after the violent clash in the Galwan Valley in June 2020.

India has always maintained that its relations with China cannot be normal until there is peace in the border area. So far, 21 rounds of Corps Commander-level talks have been held between the armies of the two countries to resolve the border confrontation dispute.

What happened in Galwan Valley? On 15 June 2020, China had gathered troops in the border areas of Eastern Ladakh on the pretext of exercise. After this, incidents of infiltration took place at many places. The Indian government also deployed troops in this area in equal numbers as China. The situation became so bad that bullets were fired on the LAC.

Meanwhile, on June 15, 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in a clash with the Chinese army in the Galwan Valley. Later, India also gave a befitting reply to this. About 60 Chinese soldiers were killed in this.
