India won the gold medal in both men’s and women’s categories in the 2023 Asian Games.
The draw and groups of the cricket tournament for the Asian Games 2026 were announced on Thursday. Indian men’s and women’s teams have made it straight to the knockouts (quarterfinals). This time all the matches of the cricket tournament will be played in T-20 format in Nagoya, Japan.
Women’s cricket tournament will be organized from 17 to 22 September. After this, the men’s cricket tournament will start from 24th September and will continue till 1st October.
4 teams get direct entry into quarter finals
A total of 10 teams will participate in the men’s cricket tournament of the 2026 Asian Games. Apart from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have got direct place in the quarter finals. Whereas, teams from Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal and Oman will play in the preliminary round.
These 6 teams will be divided into 2 groups. Top 2-2 teams of both the groups i.e. a total of 4 teams will reach the quarter finals. Here they will compete with 4 teams that have already qualified.
Indian women’s team will face Japan in the first match
A total of 8 teams will participate in the women’s cricket tournament. This event will start directly with the quarter-final matches. The Indian team will face Japan in its first match.

Earlier, in the 2023 Asian Games, India had won gold medals in both men’s and women’s categories. The final of the men’s category could not be completed due to rain. Afghanistan had scored 112/5 runs in 18.2 overs, after which the match could not be played further. India was given the gold medal on the basis of better seeding.
At the same time, in the final of women’s cricket, the Indian team won the gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka by 19 runs.
