- Uttarakhand UCC Panel Finalizes Draft, To Submit It For Dhami Govt’s Nod

The final report has been prepared regarding the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand. The UCC committee formed by the state government will soon submit this report to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The report is a draft of recommendations prepared to implement UCC in Uttarakhand, which includes provisions for uniform application of personal laws such as marriage, divorce, succession, and adoption.
CM Dhami had recently announced that the government wants to implement UCC on Uttarakhand Foundation Day on November 9. Uttarakhand will be the first state in the country to do so.

Along with committee chairman Shatrughan Singh, Surekha Dangwal, Abhinav Kumar, Amit Sinha and Manu Gaur are included as members.
The President gave approval on March 13 On March 13, the UCC bill received assent from the President. Then Dhami had expressed his gratitude to the President. He had said that the government has fulfilled the promise made to the public during the 2022 assembly elections. He said that with the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, all citizens will get equal rights and the oppression of women will also be curbed.
UCC bill was passed in the assembly on 7 February
The Uniform Civil Code Bill was passed by voice vote in the Uttarakhand Assembly on 7 February. CM Pushkar Dhami had presented this bill in the Assembly on 6 February.
As soon as this bill becomes law, it will become necessary for people living in live-in relationship in Uttarakhand to register. Failure to do so may result in punishment of up to 6 months. Apart from this, second marriage while the husband or wife is alive will also be considered illegal.
After passing the bill, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had said – Today is a very special day for Uttarakhand. I also want to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi that with his inspiration and guidance we got the opportunity to pass this bill in the Uttarakhand Assembly.
Different people were saying different things about the Uniform Civil Code Act, but everything has become clear in the discussion held in the Assembly. We have not brought this law against anyone. This law is also in the interest of children and mother power.

What will change with the Uniform Civil Code, understand in 5 points…
- Equal property rights: Both son and daughter will get equal rights in the property. It will not matter which category he belongs to.
- Property after death: If a person dies, the Uniform Civil Code gives the right to distribute that person’s property equally among the spouse and children. Apart from this, the parents of that person will also get equal rights in the property. In the previous law, this right was available only to the mother of the deceased.
- Divorce will be granted only on similar grounds: Husband and wife will get divorce only when both have the same grounds and reasons. Divorce will not be granted if only one party gives reasons.
- Live-in registration required: If couples living in Uttarakhand are living in a live-in relationship, then they will have to get it registered. Although this will be like self-declaration, but Scheduled Tribe people will be exempted from this rule.
- Responsibility of children: If a child is born from a live-in relationship, its responsibility will be that of the live-in couple. Both of them will also have to give their name to that child. This will give identity to every child in the state.
400 sections in 800 pages draft, 2.5 lakh suggestions received The report prepared by the expert committee of UCC in Uttarakhand has about 400 sections. And in this draft report of about 800 pages, 2.31 lakh suggestions, online and offline, have been included from across the state. The committee has directly contacted 20 thousand people. During this period, talks have been held with all the religious leaders, organizations, political parties and lawmakers. Whose suggestions were included in the draft by the committee.

The tribes of the state were kept out of the law This law will not apply to the tribes of Uttarakhand. There are five types of tribes in the state which include Tharu, Boxa, Raji, Bhotia and Jaunsari communities. After the 1962 war with China, they were notified in 1967 for inclusion in the tribal community under Article 342 of the Constitution. Recently, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has also said that he will also keep the tribes and tribals in his state free from this law.
