Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Friday that Google can shift a large part of the production of its devices, including Pixel phones, from China to India for export.

Apart from this, talks are also going on with American tech company Apple to manufacture products other than iPhone in the country. Vaishnav said that the government is in constant touch with Apple.

Google will completely withdraw from China

Google started assembling its ‘Pixel 8’ phone in India in 2023. Now the company is preparing to export phones made in India to the world. For this, Indian company Dixon Technologies is working on assembling the phones.

According to reports, Google may completely stop its production in China by the year 2027. The company is planning to shift the entire work of its Pixel phones, smartwatches and wireless earbuds from China to India and Vietnam.

Union Minister has big hopes

Although Google has not yet officially confirmed this, the IT Minister says that the government is in constant talks with Apple as well as Google. The government hopes that a large part of Google devices made for global markets will be manufactured in India.

India has a big stake in making iPhone

Apple has been manufacturing iPhones in India since 2017. Now its production in India has increased very rapidly in collaboration with companies like Tata Group and Foxconn. According to an estimate, in the year 2026, about 26% of the total iPhones worldwide will be made in India alone.

India has now become not just a market for Apple, but a major export hub. A large part of the iPhones manufactured in Foxconn plants in India are being exported directly to America.

Not just iPhone, emphasis on other products too

At present, along with the final assembling of the iPhone, components are also being manufactured in India. Now the Indian government is working closely with Apple, so that apart from iPhone, manufacturing of other products of the company (like iPad or MacBook) can also be started in India.

New mobile scheme worth ₹62,500 crore

The government has approved a new scheme with a budget of ₹62,500 crore for mobile manufacturing companies in the country. This scheme will run from the financial year 2027 to 2031.

The old PLI scheme has ended on March 31, 2026, under which phones were assembled in India only by importing parts from outside. The real objective of this new scheme is to manufacture phones as well as components within India.
