Film director Imtiaz Ali has shared a shocking anecdote from his college days. In an interview given to Samdish Bhatia, he told that while studying in Delhi, he had a dispute with a local gang over removing a political poster from the wall of the hostel. After this, the gang members kidnapped him from the hostel at midnight. However, after an unexpected turn of events, they managed to escape safely. These days Imtiaz Ali is preparing for the release of his next film ‘I will be back’. There was a controversy over removing posters from the wall. Imtiaz Ali had completed his graduation from Hindu College of Delhi University in the year 1993. He told that at that time there was a tough competition in student politics between NSUI and ABVP in the university colleges. Meanwhile, some people had pasted a political poster on the main front wall of his hostel. Imtiaz asked them to put the poster on the side wall instead of the front, but they did not agree. After this, Imtiaz removed the poster in front of them and put it on the side wall, due to which they got angry and went away. The gang had come to pick up the cycle rickshaw at midnight. Imtiaz told that a few days after this incident, at around 2 in the night, one of his hostel mates came and woke him up and asked him to run away from there. He told that they are coming back. Within some time, the gang members reached the hostel and asked Imtiaz to come with them. When Imtiaz asked him where to go, he did not answer. They forcibly took Imtiaz in a cycle rickshaw to a place like a government quarter. His gang leader associated with a political organization was present there, who started interrogating Imtiaz. The gang leader slapped his own man. The gang leader asked Imtiaz why he tore the poster. Imtiaz told him the truth and said that he had not torn the poster, but had only removed it and put it at another place so that the hostel building did not look bad from the front. After this the gang leader asked his man who had caught Imtiaz whether the poster had really been torn. The man replied that removing or tearing is the same thing. On hearing this, the gang leader got angry and slapped his own man twice for lying. Amidst this mutual argument, Imtiaz escaped safely. The new film will be released on June 12. Apart from this story of college days, Imtiaz Ali is in the news these days about his upcoming film ‘I will be back’. The film is set to release in theaters on June 12.
