The Nobel Peace Prize for 2026 will be announced today in Oslo, the capital of Norway. US President Donald Trump has been seeking Nobel for almost 7 years. The discussion of Nobel Peace Prize for him intensified in 2019.
At that time Trump had talked to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Trump’s supporters called it an attempt to reduce tension between the two countries. The then Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe had also reportedly nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
This time, along with Trump, the names of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Pope Leo XIV and even the International Space Station (ISS) are also in discussion. The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in Oslo, the capital of Norway.

The winner handed over her Nobel to Trump in 2025
Last year also, Trump had demanded Nobel several times. He claimed to have stopped 8 wars including India-Pakistan.
Trump himself has said many times that he has worked for peace and should get the Nobel.
The 2025 award went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. Machado later handed over his Nobel Medal to Trump.
He described it as a recognition of Trump’s support for Venezuelan independence.

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Machado reached the White House and handed over her Nobel to Trump.
Why did the name International Space Station come about?
The name of the International Space Station stands out in this year’s Nobel race. Astronauts from America, Russia, France and Canada work together on the ISS.
There are political tensions and differences between these countries on Earth, but on the space station their scientists work together. Haakon Jerlov, director of the Oslo Peace Research Institute, has described it as an example of international cooperation.
The International Space Station (ISS) is present in space about 400 kilometers above the Earth. It revolves around the Earth at a speed of about 28 thousand kilometers per hour.

The ISS completes one revolution around the Earth in about 90 minutes. That means the astronauts present there can see sunrise and sunset about 16 times in a day. (Photo credit-NASA)
Sudan’s common people’s network also a contender
The name of Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms (ERR) is also among the major contenders. Following the outbreak of civil war in Sudan in 2023, foreign aid workers left the country in large numbers. After this, the local people themselves took up the relief work in their areas.
They ran community kitchens and clinics. Sudanese people living abroad also helped these campaigns by sending money. Despite less international aid, this network continued to provide necessary help to the people.
Why Nobel Peace Prize to Norway instead of Sweden?
The rest of the Nobel Prizes are awarded in Sweden, but the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo, the capital of Norway. The reason for this is about 130 years old. This arrangement was decided by Alfred Nobel himself in his will.
In his will written in 1895, Nobel had decided that the Peace Prize would be decided by a committee elected by the Parliament of Norway. At that time Sweden and Norway were under the same king, although both had their own parliaments and separate political systems.
Nobel did not explain why he chose Norway for the Peace Prize. Nobel died in 1896 and awards started being given from 1901. At that time Sweden and Norway were in a union.
The two countries separated in 1905, but responsibility for the Peace Prize given to Norway in Nobel’s will continued. For this reason, even today the Nobel Prizes for Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature and Economics are given in Sweden, while the Nobel Peace Prize is given in Norway.
