So far, more than 3.6 lakh devotees have registered for this year’s Amarnath Yatra. There is still 10 to 12 feet of snow at many places on the Yatra route, but the Border Roads Organization (BRO) is working on quickly restoring the track on both the routes. Officials claim that both the routes will be completely ready by June 15.
The yatra will start from July 3 via Baltal-Sonmarg and the traditional Nunwan-Pahalgam route. This 57-day journey will conclude on August 28, on the day of Raksha Bandhan and Sawan Purnima. Registrations started from 15th April.
Registration closed for groups of 5 to 30 people
Registrations for devotees traveling in groups of 5 to 30 people closed on Wednesday. However, for devotees coming alone or in small groups, registration will continue till the slots remain vacant.
Registration is being done through designated branches of Punjab National Bank, Jammu and Kashmir Bank, State Bank of India and Yes Bank. Officials hope that this year this number may cross 5 lakh. In 2025, 4.14 lakh devotees had visited, whereas in 2024 this figure was more than 5.10 lakh.
There is still 12 feet of snow on the road
There is 6 to 8 feet of snow in normal places on the way and 10 to 12 feet of snow in avalanche areas. Snow has been removed from 9 km track on Baltal route and 8 km track on Nunwan-Pahalgam route. Work of widening the track by 12 feet, improving the surface, building retaining walls and culverts is also going on.
Facility to stay in pre-fabricated structures instead of tents
This time, instead of tents, pre-fabricated and fiber structures are being made in the base camp. With this, devotees will be able to get facilities like comfortable and modern accommodation.
These structures will be effective in dealing with sudden drop in temperature and rain. There are 48 rooms in each building. Every room has attached washroom. There will be facilities for hot and cold water. Pantry is also being made in every building. Work started at these places three years ago, which is now nearing completion.
This time camps will not be set up at flood affected areas
- This year all sensitive parts and disaster prone places have been declared ‘no-entry zones’ for pilgrims.
- Both the tracks of Baltal and Nunwan roads have been widened. Bridges have also been improved.
- In view of the incidents of cloud bursts and sudden floods, camps will not be set up at sensitive places.
