The elite commandos of the US Army’s Delta Force were making final preparations to kidnap the President in Venezuela. At the same time, President Nicolas Maduro was getting photographed with Qiu Xiaochi, China’s Latin America affairs official.
According to a CNN report, Nicolas Maduro told the Chinese official that Xi Jinping is like an elder brother to him. A few hours after this incident, US forces pulled Maduro from his bedroom and took him to their country.
Even though China is worried and angry after this incident, Operation Venezuela is being praised on the social media there. Many users are seeing this as a model for the Chinese military occupation of Taiwan.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro met with China’s Ambassador to Latin America Qiu Xiaoqi on January 2 at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas, Venezuela.
China angry with Maduro’s arrest
China immediately condemned Maduro’s arrest and accused Washington of becoming ‘the world’s policeman’. China condemned the US raid as wrong and demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his wife.
On Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping attacked America in gestures during his meeting with the Prime Minister of Ireland. He said that America’s unilateral pressure and threatening attitude is harming the entire world order.
Xi Jinping said that every country should have the right to choose its own path of development. He also said that all countries should follow the rules of international law and the UN Charter. Especially the big powers should become an example for others.
Like Venezuela, advice to capture Taiwan
There was a tremendous stir and discussion on China’s social media regarding the American action. Many people are questioning that if America can capture the leader of any country in its (backyard) area, then why can’t China do the same?
Some people on Chinese social media are also saying that it is wrong to compare America’s operation and Taiwan’s case. The Venezuelan case is a violation of international law, while Taiwan is China’s internal matter.
China’s ruling Communist Party considers Taiwan as its part. China has clearly said that it will annex Taiwan and, if necessary, will also use force for this. In the past few years, Beijing has continuously increased military pressure on Taiwan, even practicing blockade.

Venezuela is a close ally of China
China and Venezuela have had close relations for decades. This relationship was based on the communist ideology of both and their opposition to America. The majority of Venezuela’s oil exports go to China. Chinese companies fund large-scale infrastructure projects and investments in Venezuela.
Over the past several decades, Beijing has also given loans worth billions of dollars to Caracas. Now this action of Trump has turned this relationship upside down. This has raised questions over the future of China’s special access to Venezuelan oil and its political and economic influence in the entire region.
However, oil investors and experts believe that US action against Venezuela is unlikely to have a major impact on China’s oil supply.
In fact, Venezuela may have the world’s largest oil reserves, but its actual production is still very low. Therefore Venezuela’s share in China’s total oil needs is not very large. Even if oil from Venezuela decreases, China can buy oil from other countries.
Apart from oil, China has invested in electricity, roads, oil, gas and other projects in Venezuela. In the decade between 2007 and now, China gave a loan of $62.5 billion to Venezuela. This is almost half of the total Chinese loans given to South America during that period.
According to research by the Washington-based Stimson Center, Venezuela was the largest country in the world to receive Chinese funding during that period (2007-2017).
Will China attack Taiwan like Venezuela?
There are claims on social media that the US attack on Venezuela will embolden China to be more aggressive. However, many people in Taiwan are not taking these fears very seriously.
Wang Ting-yu, a lawmaker from Taiwan’s ruling party, rejected the idea that China could copy the US and attack Taiwan. “China is not America and Taiwan is not Venezuela. To say that China can do the same in Taiwan is not possible,” he wrote in a post on Facebook.
Experts also say that China will take steps only after careful consideration. According to CNN’s report, William Yang, an analyst associated with Belgian think tank International Crisis Group, believes that America’s action against Venezuela will not bring any major change in China’s thinking regarding the attack on Taiwan.
However, Yang also warned that this action of America is creating a new trend in the world, where countries may start using military power more to achieve their goals.
Yang told CNN, “The lesson for Taiwan is that the use of military options may now become the new normal around the world. Taiwan should take this seriously and focus on enhancing its defense capability and deterrence against China.” Taiwan has America’s support The biggest obstacle for China to attack Taiwan is the military balance in the Taiwan Strait. Even though China’s army is large, Taiwan also has the support of America.
