Hours after sunrise, M. Natarajan, the chief priest of the temple, performed a puja by offering sweets and rice pudding to the Hindu deity Dharmasastha. “We have performed puja for her earlier too and she became the vice-president of the United States. With the blessings of our Lord, she will become the president too,” the 61-year-old priest told news agency AFP.

Kamala Harris’ name among the donors of the temple
There is a list of donors on a wall of the temple. Kamala Harris’s name is also written on it. However, she never came to this village. A government employee living in the village told AFP that his village has benefited a lot because of Kamala Harris’s name being associated with it. A local bank donated Rs 1 crore to repair the village’s reservoir. This was possible only because of Harris.

People from the entire village donate items for worship and offerings at the temple. Harris’ maternal grandfather lived in this village decades ago. But the villagers said that even after his departure, his family always remained in touch. They have also been donating money for the maintenance of the temple and the village.
