Last year, in Operation Sindoor between May 7 and 10, the S-400 missiles of our air defense system had wreaked havoc by penetrating 300 kilometers into Pakistan, now their number in our defense fleet is going to increase.

There has been positive progress in discussions with Russia towards the purchase. The first deal for 5 S-400 for the Air Force was signed in 2018. 3 systems have been found. The two systems and the batteries spent in Operation Sindoor are to be replenished for the missiles. After this new squadrons will come.

In this way both the deals will be worth around Rs 1 lakh crore. DRDO is making interceptor missiles similar to S-400. This project is Kusha. In this, M-1, 2 and 3 missiles are being made, whose range will be 105 to 350 km.

Two squadrons of the first deal will be received in the next 6 months

The S-400 delivers a two-pronged attack.

First: They attack at a distance of 400 km at a speed of 3 to 14 times the speed of sound.

Second: Shoots down ballistic missiles coming from the enemy at a speed of 4.8 km per second. Even hypersonic missiles with Mach 15 speed cannot escape its range.

The first deal was done for Rs 40 thousand crores

The first deal was done for Rs 40 thousand crores. The second was agreed upon during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India. A roadmap for their supply has been made. Due to the war, deliveries from Russia were delayed. Now India has been assured that the remaining two squadrons will be supplied in the coming 6 months.

The biggest need is to make major improvements in surveillance from space.

Retd. According to Air Vice Marshal Sanjay Bhatnagar (Strategic Planning and Offensive Operations), the Air Force has taken several steps after analyzing the experiences of Operation Sindoor. Pakistan had fired 800 drones in two hours on the intervening night of 7-8 May 2025.

In such a situation, attention is being given to countering drones. China has 4 thousand satellites and 480 of these are for surveillance. We also have to make major improvements in surveillance from space. Currently India has 6 satellites for this work. Now a system of 52 satellites is being prepared.
