The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday announced that all schools and colleges in Mumbai will remain closed on Monday, in view of an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) due to heavy rainfall.
The civic body said the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amid continued heavy rains and the possibility of further intense showers in the city.
However, the BMC clarified that all government and private offices in Mumbai will function as usual despite the weather warning.
“In view of this Orange alert issued by IMD and keeping the safety of students in mind, a holiday has been declared on Monday, July 6, 2026, for all government, private, and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools and colleges in Mumbai. However, government and private offices will function as usual,” BMC’s statement said.
The IMD had issued an orange alert for the city, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, with warnings of waterlogging, traffic disruption, and strong winds in parts of Mumbai.
