In 4 years, only 9,255 youth could get jobs in employment fairs.
The employment situation in Uttarakhand is continuously worsening. According to the data of the Employment Department, there are 5 lakh 14 thousand 413 registered unemployed in the state. But in the 549 employment fairs organized in the last four years, only 9,255 youth could get jobs.
.
The special thing is that the number of employment fairs is also continuously decreasing. 197 fairs were organized in 2022-23, while in 2024-25 it came down to just 70. This makes it clear that not only the number of jobs is decreasing, but the number of fairs providing opportunities is also decreasing.
The educated youth of the state are registering in the employment department with great hope, but the opportunities available through fairs are very limited in comparison to their numbers. For this reason, most of the youth are returning unemployed and many are forced to migrate.
Overall condition of employment fairs, only 16-17 jobs in every fair
According to the data received from the Employment Department, a total of 549 job fairs were organized from 01 April 2021 to 31 October 2025. 55,079 candidates participated in these fairs, but only 9,255 took part. This means that on an average only 16 to 17 youth got jobs from a job fair, while a large number of candidates returned without selection. The selection percentage was also very low compared to the total participants.
Statistics show that since 2022-23, there has been a continuous decline in jobs available through employment fairs.
83 out of every 100 youth returned unemployed
If we look at the total data of four years, out of 55,079 participants, only 9,255 were selected. This means that out of every 100 youth, only 83 youth returned unemployed.
This situation is more disappointing for those youth who are registering in employment offices in search of employment even after graduation and post graduation.

Department’s clarification, disaster cited as reason
Sanjay Khetwal, Director of the Employment Department, says that the department is continuously trying to connect the youth with employment through employment fairs. He said that due to the disasters in the hilly areas in the current financial year, the number of employment fairs has been affected.
He says that there is a plan to organize more and more employment fairs before the end of the session, so that more youth can get the benefit of employment.
