Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step regarding madrassas. With the aim of keeping the security agencies alert, the Yogi government has now implemented a new protocol. Under this, complete details of Maulana and all the students teaching in madrassas of the state will have to be submitted to ATS. This step has come at a time when after the recent blast in the country’s capital Delhi, security agencies of many states are increasing the scope of investigation at their respective levels.
Government instructions and role of ATS increased
According to the new order, every recognized and unrecognized madrassa of the state will have to provide the personal background, mobile number, permanent address, Aadhar card details and other identity related documents of all the teachers and religious instructors working there to the ATS office. Similarly, it has been made mandatory to list and submit the details and mobile numbers of all the students studying in madrassas. Sources say that this process is not just a data collection or survey, but a part of security audit, so that the presence of suspicious elements in any institution can be identified in time. According to sources, in the last few months, intelligence agencies have taken vigilance on the increasing movement of youth from outside states in some madrassas and private religious institutions. In this connection, ATS has been entrusted with the responsibility of comprehensive background verification of madrassas.
Speed of investigation increased after Delhi blast
After the recent blast in Delhi, national security agencies have come into alert mode. Along with central agencies, state level teams have also received instructions to strengthen cross-checking of identities of visitors to religious and educational institutions. In this connection, UP ATS has started the process of seeking detailed information from madrassas. Agencies say that this step is not against any institution but is part of the policy of giving priority to security, so that any possible threat can be stopped at the initial level.
Investigative agencies also keep an eye on Integral University
Not only madrassas, some private universities have also come under scrutiny. Lucknow-based Integral University came into limelight when the name of Parvez Ansari, a teacher teaching there, came up during the investigation of Delhi blasts. After this, the intelligence agencies directed the university administration to provide the identity and documents of all the professors coming from Jammu and Kashmir. Records of students coming from Jammu and Kashmir to study in the university should be collected. Besides, details of the number of foreign students, courses and their roles should also be handed over to the Intelligence Department.
