In 2025-26, 58 engineering and technical colleges across the country were closed phase wise. In these, existing students will be allowed to complete their degree. But now there will be no new admissions in the first year. 12 colleges each in UP and Maharashtra, 8 in MP have been closed.

Petition in Supreme Court – private coaching system should be abolished
A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court to bring private coaching institutes within the legal ambit and link preparation for competitive exams with school education. It has been said in the petition that coaching institutes and dummy school model have created a parallel education system in the country. Success in medical, engineering, law and government job examinations has now become dependent on personal coaching. Due to this, students dependent on school education are left behind.
