The death toll in a suicide attack on a police complex near a mosque in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached 31. The dead include 16 policemen. More than 100 people have been injured in the attack, the condition of many of whom is said to be critical.

There were 990 terrorist attacks in Pakistan this year
There has been a rise in terrorist incidents in Pakistan this year. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), 990 militant attacks were recorded across Pakistan from January to August 2026. Of these, 1126 people lost their lives.
The highest number of 199 attacks were recorded in August, while 144 attacks were recorded in July. That means 38% increase in one month. Of these, 158 people died in August, while 268 deaths related to attacks were recorded in July.
Pakistan ranks second in Global Terrorism Index
According to the Global Terrorism Index 2025, Pakistan has become the second most terrorism affected country in the world after Burkina Faso, whereas in 2024 it was at the fourth position.
TTP attacks increased by 90% in 2025, while Baloch Army (BLA) attacks increased by 60%. Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) has now started targeting Pakistani cities as well.
According to the report, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan of Pakistan are the most terror affected areas. 90% of the total terrorist incidents across the country took place in this area.
The report described Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan as Pakistan’s most dangerous terrorist organization for the second consecutive year. In 2024, this group carried out 482 attacks, which resulted in 558 deaths, which is 91% more than in 2023.
