A child crushed a procession of Buddhist monks with a pickup truck in Thailand’s Mukdahan city on Thursday. In which at least 10 monks died and 5 were seriously injured. After driving about 10 kilometers, he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the procession of monks who were out on pilgrimage. This accident happened at around 11 am local time. A group of monks were walking in a line on the roadside. In the CCTV footage released by the local rescue organization, a pickup truck was seen hitting the procession at high speed. 35 monks and five devotees had set out on pilgrimage. More than 93% of Thailand’s population follows Buddhism. Public religious processions and processions are common. According to Mukdahan Governor Vorayan Bunnarat, a total of 35 Buddhist monks and five lay devotees were making a pilgrimage on foot from one temple to another on Thursday. This accident happened shortly after the start of the journey. According to officials, five monks died on the spot, while others succumbed to their injuries during treatment at the hospital. Many injured are undergoing treatment. Mukdahan Hospital has also appealed to the people to donate blood immediately for the treatment of the injured. The child’s family informed the police about the absence of a pickup truck. Initial investigation by the police has revealed that the boy was alone at home. He did not go to school that day because he was unwell. During this time, he took his parents’ pickup truck without permission. When the family did not find the pickup at home, they informed the police. After the accident, the police seized the vehicle and sent it for forensic examination. Police have not yet registered any case. Provincial police chief Major General Paroz Thaiphutsa said the boy is a minor. At present he cannot be interrogated because he is in shock and is not in a position to give a statement. For this reason no charges have been framed yet. The police are investigating the legal process of the entire case and the circumstances of the accident. Later speaking to BBC, the police chief said that the boy is being looked after by a team of his parents, doctor and other officials.
