Chorebagan Sarbojonin Durgotsab Samity, one of central Kolkata’s most prominent and historic Durga Puja organisers, is celebrating its 91st year of tradition, devotion, and cultural heritage. As part of this year’s preparations, the puja committee has unveiled a large mural depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi performing aarti to Goddess Durga.

The artwork has been created as a tribute to the Prime Minister’s public expressions of faith and his association with Bengal’s religious and cultural traditions. Committee members said the mural symbolises devotion, goodwill, and the spirit of cultural unity that Durga Puja represents.

Ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, PM Narendra Modi visited the historic Thanthania Kali Bari, located just a short walk from the Chorebagan Sarbojonin puja premises, where he offered prayers to Goddess Kali. The visit drew significant public attention and has remained a notable event for residents of the area.

The committee said it hopes that the Prime Minister will visit Kolkata during this year’s Durga Puja and grace the celebrations. According to the organisers, many devotees and local residents are also hopeful that he may attend the inauguration of the puja, although no official confirmation has been announced.

The mural will remain on display throughout the year, serving as a lasting artistic installation that reflects the committee’s tribute and its aspiration to welcome the Prime Minister to the celebrations in the future.
