India has created history in green energy transition. Adani Green Energy Limited, the renewable energy company of Adani Group, has started Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a total capacity of 3.37 GW/hour in Khavda located on the Kutch border.

This is the largest battery storage project built at one place in the entire world except China. The electricity generated from solar or wind energy can be stored in the batteries kept here and can be supplied to any city if needed.

Built in a record 10 months, this system can provide electricity to entire cities like Goa, Indore-Chandigarh or to 10 lakh houses 24 hours a day. This storage can keep 1.2 crore LED bulbs lit continuously for 10 hours.

Khavda project bigger than Paris

Khavda Project is five times bigger than the city of Paris in size (538 sq km). The world’s largest 30 giga watt renewable energy plant is being built here. Out of this, 9.9 GW has been commissioned.

Why is China at the forefront?

China is at the forefront in renewable energy storage. The world’s largest battery projects are located in its Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang provinces, including the Chagan Hada project with a capacity of 4 thousand mega watt hours. These batteries work non-stop even in minus 35 degrees Celsius.
