TVK-Led Alliance In Tamil Nadu Gets A Name. It Has ‘Vijay’ In It

The alliance led by actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has been named the Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance. The visuals released with the announcement feature Vijay alongside VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan, MDMK leader Vaiko and leaders of the IUML.

Interestingly, the name of the bloc includes the word ‘Victory’, which translates to ‘Vijay’ in Hindi. The alliance’s name was finalised at a meeting of senior leaders from the Congress, VCK, MDMK and IUML at the TVK headquarters in Chennai on Wednesday.

The meeting took place in Panaiyur and was attended by Congress leaders Manickam Tagore, Tharagai Cuthbert and Praveen Chakravarty. VCK was represented by Thol Thirumavalavan, Vanni Arasu, Ravi Kumar and Sinthanai Selvan, while MDMK leaders Vaiko and Durai Vaiko and IUML leaders KM Kader Moideen and Shahjahan were also present.

The Left parties were notably absent from the meeting. Both the CPI(M) and the CPI, which extend support to the government, stayed away from the gathering at the TVK headquarters in Panaiyur. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B Manickam Tagore, Rajya Sabha MP and party’s Assembly floor leader Praveen Chakravarthy, and MLA Tharahai Cuthbert also attended the meet.

The meeting was also attended by senior Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leaders Vaiko and his son Durai, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol Thirumavalavan, and Indian Union Muslim League leaders KM Kader Mohideen, AM Shahjahan and Syed Farooq Basha.
