Former Cuban President Raul Castro is in the news again after a serious case of murder and conspiracy to kill American citizens was filed in the American court. Raul, who was the third biggest face in the revolutionary movement in Cuba that lasted from July 1953 to January 1959, is considered the main architect of the plans of elder brother Fidel Castro. As soon as the Castro brothers took power in Cuba in 1959, they prosecuted former Batista government officials, policemen, and spies. Raul, in charge of the fort ‘La Cabana’, ordered the execution of 500-600 people, without any legal process. They watched people being shot by firing squads. Raul, who was the President of Cuba from 2008 to 2018, is known as a cruel leader. Opponents were eliminated as Defense Minister. When the crackdown on opponents started after the revolution in Cuba in the 1960s, the entire arrangement for firing squads and military trials was made by Raul as the Defense Minister. In June 1958, 50 civilians, including US Navy personnel, were taken hostage to stop Batista’s army. In the 1960-70s, thousands of people were sent to prisons and labor camps without a fair trial. Former CIA analyst Brian says that Fidel used to give speeches from the public platform, but Raul was the brain behind implementing the orders. In his childhood, when Raul was slapped by a teacher in school over some issue, he pushed him to the ground and gathered the children against that teacher. For this he was expelled from school. A notice was sent to the father from the school that this boy would not improve. At the age of 6, he bowed down to the dictator’s terms. In 1938, Cuban dictator Batista visited a military school. Then 6-year-old Raul had to give the welcome speech. Instead of reading the speech, Raoul boldly placed a bet that his teacher should first be promoted to ‘Lieutenant’. 20 years later (in 1959), Raul, along with his brother Fidel, ousted the same Batista from power. Raul, who was the Defense Minister of any country in the world for the longest time (about 49 years), had handed over more than 60% of the business related to hotels, tourism, ports and foreign exchange to military companies.
